PROFILE

Yichen Lu is principal of New York City-based Studio Link-Arc, which he founded in 2011. He is also an associate professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Yichen is currently serving as chief architect for the China Pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, on behalf of Tsinghua University. The Pavilion won the Iconic Award “Best of Best” 2014 and German Design Award Special Mention 2015, both from the German Design Council. Other ongoing work includes two clubhouses, an archive library, and two large-scale master plans. Before establishing Studio Link-Arc, Yichen was a project manager at Steven Holl Architects, where he was in charge of the firm’s many award-winning projects in China. He also worked as a project architect at Gehry Partners, LLP, where he was responsible for the design of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, among other projects. Yichen has received numerous awards and honors for his work. In 2011, he was nominated as one of the 10 emerging young Chinese architects to provide an urban strategy proposal for the 2011 Chengdu Biennale. In 2007, he received the Robert Allen Ward Scholarship Award at the Yale School of Architecture. His 'Planless House at Manhattan' project won first prize in the 2006 International ‘Shinkenchiku’ Residential Design Competition. Yichen was the first prize winner of the Ikuo Hirayama Scholarship in 1999, as well as the National Architecture Design Exhibition. Yichen Lu received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design, and a Master of Architecture degree from the Yale School of Architecture.
