PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Habitat Lab in Corsico, near Milan in North-Western Italy, is a Saint-Gobain innovation and training center: it is a sustainable building certified LEED Platinum (LEED 2009 Italia NC protocol), with 90 out of 110 points, the highest score ever reached in Italy.
Habitat Lab is a multi-functional space that hosts a showroom of products and solutions for sustainable Habitat, several meeting rooms and a training center with fitted areas for demonstrations and applications. Inside Habitat Lab Saint-Gobain is carrying out a constant training activity to all the actors of the building market: investors, real estate, designers, general contractors, installers, retailers. The aim is to spread the concept of sustainable building and to promote good practices of design and construction.
Saint-Gobain Habitat Lab is partly a renovation of an existing building (700 m2) and partly a new construction (500 m2), with a total surface of 1.200 m2.
Habitat Lab has been built with the most advanced building solutions to ensure high levels of energy efficiency, reduction of non-renewable raw materials, reduction of CO2 emissions and multiple levels of indoor environmental comfort.

SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
Habitat Lab has achieved energy class A + (Less than 3kWh / mc) for its exemplar enegy performance. The building was designed applying the most innovative building technology solutions of the group, in order to guarantee high levels of energy saving, drastic reduction of indoor pollutants and achieve maximum comfort level. Habitat Lab is a premier training and innovation center that has achieved net-positive energy for the building.
Human health and wellbeing are also a major theme behind the multi-purpose center. Thanks to the technology Activ'Air® of Saint-Gobain Gyproc, VOC air pollutants (i.e. formaldehyde emissions) were reduced a reduction by 70% providing an improved indoor air quality.
Habitat Lab is also an exemplar building in terms of comfort too. Acoustic comfort is guaranteed beyond the standard, thanks to the acoustic insulation technologies herein adopted;
High level of visual comfort is achieved through maximisation of the natural light and the use of Saint-Gobain's innovative "electrochromic glazing" units. The colour of the glass varies according to the intensity of external light and solar radiation providing maximum visual comfort within the interiors. Glazing units are fitted with triple insulating glass which allows significant energy savings.
The building was awarded LEED Platinum certification under the LEED 2009 NC protocol earning 90 out of 110 points, the highest score ever reached in Italy.
